The surgical side of oncology requires more hands-on work because oncologists in this area have to perform invasive surgery in order to remove cancerous cells from parts of the body. An oncologist will also oversee the radiation process of cancer. This part of the process is not as hands-on but does require that the oncologist oversee, administer and review the radiation that the cancer patient will receive. There are conflicting views about radiation, but studies have shown that using it for cancer treatment helps destroy cancerous cells and put them to a halt.
